1 Finish the following dialogue: (4 Marks)
A dialogue with Four (4)
deletions is provided TWO (2) statements& TWO (2) questions).
The topic of the dialogue should
be related to the students’ everyday life, interests,
hobbies, events and so on... The
situation in which the dialogue takes place is described
briefly but clearly. The students
are required to fill in the deletions with the appropriate
language forms. (One mark each)
2 Write what you would say in each of the following
situations: (4 Marks)
Four (4) different situations are
described briefly but clearly. The students are asked to
write the appropriate language
form they would say in each situation. (One mark each)

Vocabulary and Structure
3 Choose the correct answer from a, b, c or d: (8 Marks)
Sixteen (16) multiple-choice
items with Four (4) options each (8 vocabulary and 8
structure) based on the Set Books
are provided. (Half mark each)
4 Find and correct the mistakes in the following
sentences: (4 Marks)
Six (6) separate sentences with
Six (6) mistakes are provided (3 vocabulary and 3 structure)
each sentence has only one
mistake. Students are asked to rewrite each sentence correctly.
(Students are awarded half a mark
for finding the mistake and half a mark for correcting it.)

Reading Comprehension and Set
Books
5 Read the following passage, then answer the
questions: (6 Marks)
An unseen text of about (120 -
150) words is provided. This may be a story, a factual
text, a letter, an e-mail or a
dialogue. Most vocabulary and all structures should be from
theSet Books. The students are
asked to answer Four (4) open-ended questions and Two
(2) multiple-choice ones, with
Four (4) options each.
These questions should test the
following reading comprehension skills:
• 2 questions for extracting
information. (2 Marks)
• giving the main idea or
understanding reference (pronoun reference) (1 Mark)
• guessing the meaning of
vocabulary in context. (1 Mark)
• a critical thinking skill
(giving an opinion, evaluating an idea, etc.) (1 Mark)
• prediction. (1 Mark)

A set of SIX (6) varied critical
thinking questions, based on the reading material in the Set
Books, are provided. Students are
asked to answer Only Four (4) questions.

7 Answer the following questions:
The students are asked to answer:
a) Five (5) open-ended questions,
including Two (2) critical thinking questions. (One
mark each)
b) Three (3) questions based on
one quotation. (One mark each)
The questions should test the
students’ understanding of the plot, incidents and characters
in the assigned novel.

Writing
8 a) Write a paragraph of NINETY (90) words about only
ONE (1) of the following:
The students are asked to write a
paragraph of about NINETY (90) words about ONE
(1) of the TWO (2) given topics
appealing to their ages interests, likes, aspirations..
etc. The title of the paragraph
should be self-explanatory (i.e., easy to understand). No
guidance is given.
OR
b) Write an
email to ....... (6 Marks)
The students are asked to write
an email of about NINETY (90) words on ONE (1) of
the TWO (2) given topics. The
topic of the email should be self-explanatory (i.e., easy
to understand). The name of the
sender, addressee and the subject should be provided.
(2 marks for format/4 marks for
content)
F
Translation
9 a) Translate into Arabic: (2 Marks)
TWO (2) separate, short
meaningful sentences of about 10-12 words each are provided.
Students are asked to translate
them from English into Arabic.
b)
Translate into English: (2 Marks)
ONE (1) short meaningful sentence
of about EIGHT (8) words is provided. Students
are asked to translate it from
Arabic into English.
The translation question aims at
testing the students’ awareness of the areas of
similarity and difference between
the mother tongue and target language.
Vocabulary and structure should
be from the language component presented in the Set
Books.
(Total: 50 × 4/10 = 20 Marks for each term)
